Christian Missions Today

One of the new trends in Christian missions today is using high school students to travel oversees as short term missionaries. While the locations for these trips vary very widely, there should be three primary objectives of these trips. The first is to experience a deepening in their relationship with God. The second is to experience teamwork. The third is to share the love of Jesus.

• Short term missions allow the students to deepen their relationship with God. Before the trip the student learns to rely on God for finances. He or she also learns to rely on God for the faith to be willing to give up their own dreams and focus on someone else.
• Short term missions allow students to work as a team. This is a chance for them to be part of the body of Christ in action. This will help them understand that the church really has very little to do with the building and more with the students actions both collectively and individually.
• Short term missions should have an evangelical focus. Therefore, the students learn that the church must be busy leading others to Christ.
• Short term missionaries for high school students are something that should be highly endorsed. There are many wonderful organizations that will assist the youth to have a very successful experience.
